The discovery
We’re Sophia and Emma, two best friends who traveled to Japan in 2023, chasing beauty, culture, and a deeper sense of peace.
One cup of matcha changed everything. We fell in love with the ritual, the calm, the craftsmanship. It wasn’t just a drink, it was a moment, a feeling, a ceremony, and we knew we had to bring that feeling home with us.
From passion to purpose
Sourcing pure matcha from Uji
Back in Japan a few months later, we began working with a local farm to source ceremonial-grade matcha directly from Uji.
We tested, tasted, and refined until we found the perfect balance: rich, smooth, and energizing.
Our vision was becoming real.
A new obsession, a new vision
The ube awakening
Just as we were preparing our first launch, we discovered ube in a tiny café and instantly became obsessed. The color, the taste, the joy. It was love at first sip. That’s when it clicked, our brand would be about both matcha and ube. Two vibrant ingredients, two cultures, one ritual.
That’s how Ubatcha was born.

From curiosity to connection
The Ube Journey
After falling in love with ube, we knew we couldn’t just sell it without truly understanding it. So we flew to the Philippines, the land where ube has been loved for generations. We met farmers, explored the soil, tasted dozens of varieties, and learned about the cultural roots of this vibrant purple yam.
It was more than sourcing, it was about respect, intention, and finding the partners who shared our values. Ube became part of our story not just for its flavor, but for everything it represents.
